What Causes Eyelash Extensions to Fall Out Quickly? Common Mistake #7!

What Causes Eyelash Extensions to Fall Out Quickly? Common Mistake #7!

1. Improper eyelash hygiene:

Immediately after eyelash extensions are completed, the first thing clients are reminded is to avoid touching their lashes frequently or getting them wet, and clients themselves will naturally adopt this awareness. However, the reality is quite the opposite. Everyone needs to clean their entire face every day. Unlike cluster lashes which can be removed with warm water, eyelash extensions are attached to natural lashes with cyanoacrylate-based glue, a compound that is not soluble in the natural oils on your skin. And when you don't clean your lashes properly with specialized lash cleansers, excess oil secreted from the hair follicles of your natural lashes will accumulate at the base of the extensions, reducing their adhesion. Daily cleansing with suitable cosmetics will maintain your client's eyelash extensions.

2. Clients sleeping on their side or stomach:

If clients sleep completely on their side or stomach, the number of eyelashes falling out will definitely increase significantly because the uneven pressure on the eyelashes reduces the adhesion between the false and real eyelashes. For clients with this habit, using an eye sleeping mask can help reduce the pressure on the eyelashes and minimize eyelash loss.

3. Late Eyelash Refills:

Depending on each client's eyelash growth cycle and their home care routine, it is recommended to have eyelash extensions refilled every 10 days to 2 weeks. Regular refills can help eyelash extensions last up to 6 weeks. If a client comes in for a lash touch-up when their extensions are almost gone, their natural lashes have grown too long, or their lash shape has shifted from their original look, the technician will not be able to complete a full set. Typically, a full set touch-up will extend the lashes by another 4 weeks. If you don't have enough time for a full set touch-up and can only get half a set, the duration will be halved. Maintaining lash extensions is very important, so clients should be encouraged and reminded to get touch-ups when 50% of their lashes have fallen out.

4. Not brushing your lashes regularly

Always remind your clients to brush their lashes daily to achieve the best effect and volume. Avoid brushing too hard at the base of the lashes where the glue is, as excessive force can loosen the extensions and cause them to fall out. Also, if the client washes their face carelessly, the lashes can stick together, ruining the shape. Therefore, daily brushing is essential. Both regular and mini lash brushes can be used to apply volume lashes.

5. Incorrect Makeup Application

When using mascara or eyeliner, ensure clients use appropriate cosmetics. Never use waterproof or water-resistant formulas, or oil-based makeup removers, and do not leave these makeup layers on overnight, as these chemicals can dissolve the eyelash extension glue. When removing makeup, avoid using cotton pads or terry cloth to prevent rubbing or loosening the eyelash extensions.

6. Frequent exposure to heat and high humidity

When clients practice yoga in hot conditions, use saunas, cook continuously, or blow-dry their hair near the eyes, it negatively affects the maintenance of eyelash extensions, straightens them, or causes the tips of the extensions to curl.

7. Poor Technician Skills and Techniques

Incorrect techniques are also a reason why eyelash extensions don't last long. Different technicians are trained at different centers, so there will be differences in techniques and methods. Learning at salons, non-specialized centers, or through a "learn by doing" method without a complete curriculum and with teachers lacking pedagogical skills will result in students not understanding the fundamentals of the technique, leading to rigid and inflexible work. Therefore, carefully choosing an eyelash extension training center will help you have a more secure future.
